If one were to ask how long it took me to get to where I am in my Healing Arts Practice, I would have to reply 'my entire life.' The many hours it takes to master a particular healing arts modality is more than gaining knowledge - it also involves the process of making it one's own. I have been on the path of learning various healing art modalities for over 35 years. The study of each healing modality led to the next, and the next, and eventually they merged together in a place and in a way that is distinct and unique.
My journey began as a child. I began seeing spirits when I was 6 - my grandfather had died and I was staying with my grandmother... one night I woke up and I noticed the sheer curtains blowing in the wind and then I saw my grandfathers spirit going to the end of the bed... he pointed to my grandmother and whispered, with on finger over his lips, "Shush... don't wake your grandmother!" I didn't realize I was intuitive until my early 20's when I'd say to a friend driving, 'slow down there's a cop up ahead' and sure enough there was... that kept happening... in various ways... then I took an aura reading class and that gave me a tool to 'tap into' my clients.
My skills grew over the years...with basic healing classes, which lead me on a circuitous route, incorporating Zen Shiatsu, Energy Healing, Sound and Vibrational Healing, Shamanism, Meditation, Interfaith Ministry, Classical Acupuncture, Aromatherapy, Stone Medicine, Chinese Dietary Therapy and a myriad of classes in between. I've come to understand that it's all about energy. It doesn't matter which modality I use, it's about fitting the modality with the individual.
I have become a mixture of all these modalities – which gives me the ability to connect with my patients on many levels, with the skill and tools to assist in their healing journey.
I have a Masters of Science Degree in Acupuncture from the Swedish Institute of Health Sciences in New York City, where I studied Classical Acupuncture. I am a Connecticut State Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc), Nationally Board Certified, a Diplomat in Acupuncture with the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), and an Ordained Interfaith Minister.
As well as having a private healing arts practice, I also work at Mountainside Treatment Center in Canaan Ct, as an acupuncturist, working extensively with drug and alcohol addiction issues.
I have completed post-graduate courses with Jeffery Yuen, who is an 88th generation Taoist priest of the Jade Purity School, Lao Tsu sect and a 26th generation Taoist priest of the Complete Reality School, Dragon Gate sect, in Advanced Classical Acupuncture, Chinese Medical Aromatherapy, Stone Medicine, Chinese Dietary Therapy and Early Daoism: Shamanistic Journey into Healing for Healer.
The above painting is my interpretation of a pulse as part of an acupuncture assessment:
Feeling the rhythm, the story and the wholeness that lies within each person.
